The Burke Lady Cougars delivered a stunning performance at the state championship this past weekend, clinching an impressive 3rd-place finish. The event, held at Denny Sanford Premier Center showcased the team's resilience, skill, and determination as they competed against some of the best teams in the state.

The Lady Cougars opened the tournament with a strong showing, defeating the Kadoka Kougars in the first three sets, setting the tone for their championship journey. Their teamwork and strategic plays were on full display.

In the semi-finals, the Lady Cougars faced a formidable opponent, Chester Flyers, where they fought hard but fell short. Despite the setback, the team rallied in their final match against Hitchcock-Tulare demonstrating their unwavering spirit and earning a victory to secure the 3rd-place title.

Head Coach Billie Jo praised the team's efforts: “I couldn't be prouder of how the girls played at the state volleyball tournament, achieving an incredible 3rd Place finish and a school record for the most wins in a season with 35! Their hard work, determination, and teamwork truly shone throughout the competition. Each player gave their all on the court, and their efforts paid off in such a meaningful way. This achievement is a testament to their dedication and the countless hours of practice they put in. They really stepped up and played aggressively throughout each match and handled the highs and the lows of the game with such grace and humbleness. Our match against Chester was a hard loss, but the way they responded after that showed true grit and perseverance! Getting that 3-set win over Hitchcock-Tulare left smiles and a statement on that court that showed just how awesome our team is! Each girl on our team played such an important role no matter if they were on the court or on the bench! I am so proud of ALL of them! The seniors have been such amazing role models on and off the court and we will truly miss them next season! Thank you to everyone for your support throughout the season. The crowds we had each day at the state tournament were also a true testament of how awesome our community/school and neighboring communities/schools are! Thank you to everyone who made the trip or watched the live stream! What a season to remember!”

Players Kailee Frank and Emmie Hausmann were selected for the All-Tournament Team. Senior Kailee Frank was named to the All-State Team, while Senior Paige Bull received All-State Honorable Mention.

Additionally, six Lady Cougars earned SCC All-Conference Team honors: Kailee Frank, Paige Bull, Emmie Hausmann, Kyrie Matucha, Ava Sargent, and Emmie Spencer. Four Lady Cougars were also selected for the Great Plains Conference Team: Kailee Frank, Emmie Hausmann, Paige Bull, and Kyrie Matucha.

The Lady Cougars’ season may have ended, but their journey has left a mark, inspiring younger athletes and demonstrating what hard work and teamwork can achieve.
